Forms of Identification
Identifying the signer is the most critical aspect of notarial services. We want you to be prepared ahead of your scheduled signing appointment.
Acceptable Forms of Identification
A key element of a notary's role is to identify the signer using a valid identification document issued by a state, federal or consulate agency. To be considered valid, the identification must be valid at the time of notarization and must contain a photo and signature of the bearer. The list below provides examples of acceptable identification documents:
- State issued driver's license
- State issued non-driver's identification
- U.S. passport or passport card
- A valid foreign passport
- U.S. military identification card
